Help Ms. Wolowicz’s 2nd Grade Classroom!
Child Care Advocate & Doula, Mirella Alexis and her team are partnering up with Ms. Wolowicz’s 2nd grade class at Lloyd Elementary School in Chicago to help raise money to get books they desperately need!
Her students are in second grade. Their abilities span from that of an emergent reader to someone already reading at a fourth grade level. Their school is in a high poverty neighborhood and her students have limited resources available to them both at school and at home. Despite these circumstances, they are very eager to learn and their eyes sparkle when you put a new book in their hands! The books she would purchase with this project will allow her students the opportunity to practice at home the reading skills they learn at school. More importantly, this project will foster a lifelong love of reading in her students by giving them the opportunity to share the experience of reading with their loved ones at home.
Ms. Wolowicz has been teaching in Chicago Public Schools for 15 years and the books in her lending library have seen better days. She wants to be able to provide new, engaging books for her students at their reading level so that they are excited about reading. With the addition of these books, her students will be able to take home a new book each week and bring their love of reading home. Her students need engaging books at their level so that they can build their confidence and grow their love for reading. Many of her students don’t have any books at home, so a lending library in her classroom is essential. Donations will be used to purchase leveled books for a lending library so that each individual child’s reading needs will be met.
