Show Your Nanny Love this NNRW 2019
You may not know that today kicks off National Nanny Recognition week 2019 (September 22nd – 28th). Nannies often don’t get the recognition they deserve. As a childcare advocate, I often hear the lack of appreciation nannies endure in what is often a thankless job. If you employ a nanny, there are many ways for you to show them appreciation all week long, or even when the week is over. As the saying goes, “Appreciate good people. They are hard to come by.”
Thoughtful gift cards for your nannies favorite coffee shop, salon, clothing shop, or bookstore are always a lovely idea. Of course, bonuses in cash or check form are always appreciated as well. You can always add a cute card and flowers to go with it. If you want to take it a step further, you can add a sentimental card and a handmade gift from your child. I’ve always found these to be extra touching and make for a great keepsake. Another route you can take is by giving your nanny a paid day off to enjoy themselves, all the while not losing any income is a very considerate gift.
Depending on your schedule, a day together with your nanny can be a wonderful gift. Spending quality time together and taking your nanny out for coffee, to lunch, or shopping is a kind gift. Getting to know each other on a deeper level and bonding over the care of your child can lead to a more beneficial relationship for everyone.
But no matter what you choose to do for your nanny this week big or small, make sure they feel the love. “It is not how much you do, but how much love you put in the doing.” — Mother Teresa.
